'Idiot proof' Computer System Can Be Big Help to Clubs

Irish Independent: October, 2003

Golf enthusiast and software engineer John Flanagan has devised an idiot-proof computer programme to help clubs easily update their website with results and essential information.

Dubbed 'Site Cady', the programme can be accessed from a laptop and the user does not need to be at the club to file data such as the day's results, photos, notices of events etc.

That means if the competition secretary or whoever is the resident expert on updating a club's website is away on holiday, he or she could still, if required, upload the results and keep the website up to date.

There are many other features available on the site and in time it will be possible for a club official to send an SMS text message to every member.

That would be handy if a course is affected by weather on a Saturday night and members can be saved a wasted trip on a Sunday morning.

However, the raison d'etre for developing the Site Caddy system is Flanagan's observation that many club's websites are not brought up to date as quickly as they might be.

Flangagan, 34, plays off five handicap at St. Margaret's and has been living in Ireland for the past six years. He is a native of New York whose parents are Irish, and for the last decade he has been working on Web Design and developing computer programmes for Golf facilities and Hotels.
